Mexico, near the celebration of Día de los Muertos. Alejandro (40), a loving single father, struggles to straighten up his life for the sake of his daughter Gabriela (6). He wants to leave the migrant smuggling gang where he works for, but fears for his life. When he gets assigned the task of transporting Central American immigrants to the border of the U.S., he sees an opportunity to escape with this daughter. During the trip, things start to go wrong and Alejandro has to make difficult decisions. It opens his eyes to a world he was unaware of.

Nocturnus takes you into the darkness. After all, night is not always a time, sometimes it can be a place. In the northernmost village of our planet, the sun doesn’t show itself during an entire winter. The villagers crawl close together and doze of into months of hibernation. This extraordinary phenomenon arouses the interest of some scientists… It’s the young doctoral student Olivia who first describes human hibernation. Immediately, the European Space Agency sends its most renowned sleep researcher: Noor. She has to find out whether Olivia’s scoop would enable distant space travel. Will both women succeed in shining their light on this enigmatic hibernation? Or does the collaboration falter and do they grope vainly in the dark?

What follows is a magic-realistic journey in the vibrant world of circus, unfolding the complexity of emancipation.
